It is not just the Scudetto race that is wide open, because this weekend’s Serie A results mean six teams are within a six-point radius, all fighting for that fourth Champions League spot.

This is panning out to be one of the most exhilarating campaigns in the history of the Italian top flight.

There are three sides battling it out at the top for the title, but the race for that crucial Champions League qualification place might be even closer.

With nine rounds left to be played, Bologna crushed Lazio 5-0 to leapfrog both the Aquile and Juventus into fourth place.

Fiorentina also defeated Juve 3-0, while Roma saw off Cagliari 1-0 to climb back into the tussle for Europe.

It means there are now six teams crammed within a six-point radius, all of them in the running for fourth spot.

Under the Italian rules, if two sides finish level on points, the first dividing criteria is their head-to-head record.

Bologna are in pole position right now on 53 points, followed by Juventus with 52, Lazio 51, Roma 49, Fiorentina 48 and Milan 47.
