A fair housing video series commissioned by the National Association of REALTORS®, and produced in collaboration with the Perception Institution, has earned national recognition for raising awareness about implicit bias in real estate. The three-part “Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing” won a silver Anthem Award, which was presented by The Webby Awards, in the diversity, equity and inclusion category. The award, which recognizes “mission-driven work of people, companies and organizations,” acknowledged the series for “amplifying voices that spark global change” and inspiring others to take action.

“Discrimination has historically hindered qualified buyers from realizing the American dream of homeownership,” says NAR President Kevin Sears. “REALTORS® are committed to abiding by fair housing laws and NAR’s Code of Ethics. But as this video points out, hidden biases sometimes result in unequal treatment without our conscious awareness. Our association is steadfast in our commitment to providing tools and resources to help members tackle hidden biases and treat all consumers fairly.”

The videos were designed to be used as training tools for real estate professionals, brokerages and associations. In conjunction, real estate professionals can complete a certification program that expands on the concepts outlined in the videos.

“I am so honored that Perception Institute’s work with the National Association of REALTORS® is being recognized with this significant honor from the Anthem Awards,” says Sadiqa Reynolds, CEO of Perception Institute, a think tank. “Equal access to housing is at the heart of our mission to create a more just society rooted in dignity, belonging and fairness.”
