With the clock winding down on the Chicago Bears’ season, the focus has shifted to the coaching search after yet another disappointing defeat. Losing to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football in Week 17, the Bears lost their 10th consecutive game in a season that has been terrible on every level. And, even after Matt Eberflus was fired, there were no considerable or positive changes to this team.
Making his weekly appearance on 670 the Score, Bears wide receiver DJ Moore was asked about what the coaching search might look like for the Bears, and potential candidates who might be interested.
With many in the NFL media circles have listed Chicago as a hot destination for a potential head coach, Moore says the team as players haven’t done a good job of putting together good film to intrigue and excite potential candidates. He would add that there could be doubts from potential candidates on how this Bears team could get fixed quickly with a new head coach.
“I can see it, but we haven’t put it on tape that this is a job that everybody should want,” Moore said. “We’ve got the pieces. We’ve just got to be able to work well together. This year, with the 10-game losing streak, people are watching and seeing how we’re losing and the pieces we have. It would be the best job to walk into, but also, it’s like, ‘Dang, what’s actually happening and how can I fix it?'”
It’s quite understandable to see Moore’s point of view on the topic of the next potential head coach. The roster is filled with talent, especially on offense with Moore, quarterback Caleb Williams, running back D’Andre Swift, and fellow receiver Rome Odunze, and tight end Cole Kmet.
The overwhelming issue, to Moore’s point, is that the Bears have had this talent all season, and still couldn’t find ways to get wins on the season. It’s certainly something that the next potential head coach will have to think long and hard about. Is this a roster that can be turned around quickly? If so, how does that happen? That’s something that will need to be addressed with management and ownership before a coach is signed.
